Biography

The Austrian pianist graduated from the Mozarteum in Salzburg and the University of Music in Vienna, where Hans Leygraf, Hans Petermandl and Heinz Medjimore were among her teachers. In Vienna, she studied accompaniment with David Lutz and attended master courses with Boris Bloch and Helmut Deutsch.

Senka Brankovic is the winner of numerous competitions, among them the Bösendorfer Contest in Vienna and the International Brahms Contest in Pörtschach. With Alexander Puhrer, baritone, she placed third at the International Lied Contest in Stuttgart.

Her extensive concert career as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist has taken Senka Brankovic to many places in Europe and the whole world, among them leading concert halls such as the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus in Vienna, the Brucknerhaus in Linz and the Philharmonic in Berlin, Opera House in Cairo and the Sayed Darwish Theatre in Alexandria. She has participated in Kyoto’s chamber music festival and gave numerous concerts in European cities such as Munich, London, Lausanne, and Milano.

The pianist’s great love and passion are chamber music and Lied- accompaniment and she is much in demand by renowned artists. Among her most important musical partners in recent years have been Alban Beikircher, violin; Josef Hell (Vienna Philharmonic), violin; Alexander Puhrer, baritone; Erwin Belakowitsch, baritone; Anna Maria Pammer, soprano; KS Gabriele Sima, mezzo soprano; Tanja Becker-Bender, violin, Maria Mücke (Deutsches Symphonie Orchester), violin.

Senka Brankovic also enjoys combining her recitals with literary readings and has worked in this context with acclaimed actors and actresses such as Peter Matic, Julia Stemberger and Klaus Jürgen Wussow.

Thus far, Senka Brankovic has recorded four CDs: With violinist Tanja Becker-Bender works for violin and piano by Antonin Dvorak with the label Pavane in 1999; with violinist Josef Hell ( Wiener Philharmoniker) works by Erich Wolfgang Korngold with the label Gramola in 2007 and with violinist Alban Beikircher the complete works for violin and piano by Edvard Grieg with the label Ars Production in 2011.

Currently, Senka Brankovic ist promoting her new solo recording: Piano works by Johannes Brahms and Ivan Eröd with the label Gramola.

 

Senka Brankovic holds teaching positions at the Universität der Künste Berlin as well as the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin.
